A Brief Overview
Administers respiratory care and life support to patients with deficiencies and
abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system, under supervision of Physician and
by prescription, by performing the duties of a Respiratory Therapist.
Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.

  • Ability to calculate respiratory-related formulas as necessary for patient care.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist - KSBHA Must also be registered by the NBRC. Required

What you will do

  • Reads prescription and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment such as type and duration of therapy, and medication and dosages.

  • Determines most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications which may be needed that will be compatible with Physician’s orders.

  • Sets up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators. Operates equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature, and to administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs to patients. Observes equipment function and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently. Reports improper working equipment.

  • Monitors patient’s physiological response to therapy such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes.

  • Performs bronchopulmonary drainage and assists patient in performing breathing exercises. Performs bedside pulmonary function tests to be used by Physician in diagnosis of case.

  • Maintains patient’s chart that contains pertinent identification and therapy information. Records accurate patient charges.

  • Consults with Physician in event of adverse reactions.

  • Performs basic life support measures.

  • Maintains ABL machine by performing daily maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.

  • Performs acquisition and analysis of arterial blood.

Overview

Calling all Respiratory Therapists! We have opportunities at Children’s Mercy, and we are excited to offer a supplemental pay program to all RTs joining our organization. If you are hired by Children’s Mercy, you will receive: 

  • $5,000 if hired as Full-time & Full-time Weekend Option (80-60 hours per pay period)

  • $3,000 if hired as Part-time & Part-time Weekend Option (59-32hours per pay period)

  • $1,500 if hired as Part-time Casual & PRN (<32 hours per pay period)

Children's Mercy Critical Care Transport ensures neonatal and pediatric patients receive the most up to date, cutting edge transport care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our transport team is specifically trained in neonatal and pediatric transport medicine and has been providing support to physicians and healthcare facilities throughout Missouri and Kansas, as well as nationally and internationally, since 1971. Completing nearly 5300 transports annually, our team is a leader in critical care transport. A specialty registered nurse registered respiratory therapist, and emergency medical technician/ paramedic make up the dedicated crew for each transport. Our continued commitment to excellence in transport medicine has earned our team national and international recognition, including the honor of Neonatal/Pediatric Transport Award of Excellence from the Association of Air Medical Services. Our communication center is staffed with certified flight communication specialists ready to assist you at all times. The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services (CAMTS) accredits our program in three modes of transport: ground, rotor wing, and fixed wing. Multiple teams are available 24 hours a day, ready for immediate dispatch.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree and 3-5 years experience critical care experience which includes at least one year pediatric and/or neonatal critical care

  • Bachelor's Degree

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $32.70/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education / Experience: Must be a graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program.

Certificates and Licenses: Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and registered as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts.
